His name was synonymous with greatness on the diamond thanks to his natural talent for playing baseball.A highly versatile player, a strong baserunner and powerful hitter, he stood out especially as a pitcher and catcher. He debuted in the nation’s capital at the beginning of the last century with a club from Monterrey, and in 1903 he was signed by Mexico’s first team.In 1907, when the Chicago White Sox—then world champions—played in Mexico City, he pitched a game against them and performed so well that he received offers to go play in the United States, but he declined them.In the port of Veracruz, he achieved countless feats with Club Esperanza and with El Águila through 1917, including hitting a towering home run off the famous Cuban pitcher José de la Caridad Méndez. For the people of Veracruz, he was a true idol.In 1918, he returned to the capital, signed by Reforma, a team that played a series against the Havana Reds and Nacional. It was the last major season in which he played.
