Major Achievements: The first Mexican player to spend 17 seasons in Major League Baseball. Won the Gold Glove Award in 1976 with the Detroit Tigers and played in the 1981 World Series with the New York Yankees. Named to the Caribbean Series All-Star Team in 1984.

THE FIRST MEXICAN WITH 17 YEARS IN THE MAJOR LEAGUES
 

Spending 17 seasons in the Major Leagues places him among the finest third basemen in Mexican baseball history the embodiment of excellence at the hot corner.

 

He collected 1,570 hits in the Major Leagues, including 287 doubles, 46 triples, and 124 home runs, finishing with a .237 batting average. In 1976, he earned the coveted Gold Glove Award while playing for the Detroit Tigers.

 

He began his Mexican League (summer) career in 1965 with the Charros de Jalisco. He played only six seasons in the summer circuit, where his defense and hitting stood out  particularly in 1987, when he posted an outstanding .371 batting average.

 

In the Mexican Pacific League, he played 18 seasons, debuting with Cañeros de Los Mochis and later joining Yaquis de Ciudad Obregón. He totaled 1,205 hits, including 208 doubles, 11 triples, and 129 home runs. He also scored 583 runs and finished with a .273 batting average.

 

The Sonoran native represented Mexico in two Caribbean Series: in 1978 in Mazatlán, Sinaloa, with the Tomateros de Culiacán, and in 1984 in San Juan, Puerto Rico, with Los Mochis. That year, he was named to the All-Star Team for his outstanding performance at third base.

HIS ARM STOOD OUT IN BOTH LEAGUES
 

He played 17 seasons in the Mexican League with Jalisco, Puebla, Aguascalientes, Coatzacoalcos, Poza Rica, Campeche, and Unión Laguna.

 

He pitched 2,025 innings in 431 games, including 95 complete games. He recorded 122 wins and 137 losses, posting a .471 winning percentage.

 

He ranks among the top pitchers in ERA for those with more than 2,000 innings pitched, finishing with a 3.42 mark. He also recorded 22 shutouts and struck out 955 batters over the course of his summer league career.

 

In the Mexican Pacific League, he played 17 seasons with Culiacán, Ciudad Obregón, and the Potros de Tijuana, compiling a 46–61 record with a 3.31 earned run average.

 

He also spent four seasons in Major League Baseball  three with the Chicago White Sox and one with the Philadelphia Phillies  posting a solid 2.65 ERA and earning 27 saves.

Major Achievements: Delivered strong performances both as a starter and reliever in Mexico’s two most important leagues. Posted a 3.42 ERA in the summer league, a 3.31 ERA in the winter league, and an impressive 2.65 ERA over four seasons in the Major Leagues.

ENRIQUE MAZÓN RUBIO

Place of Birth: Hermosillo, Sonora
Role: Executive

LMP Team: Naranjeros de Hermosillo

Major Achievements: Won nine championships as head of the club and organized four Caribbean Series tournaments, including the 2014 championship in Margarita, Venezuela. In 2021, he was inducted into the Caribbean Series Hall of Fame in Mazatlán, Sinaloa.

MULTI-CHAMPIONSHIP EXECUTIVE
 

He joined the Naranjeros de Hermosillo in 1987 and from that point forward built a career defined by success. As President of the Board of Directors of the Hermosillo club, he led the organization to become the first in Mexican baseball history to reach 17 championships. A winner in every sense of the word, he rightfully earned his induction into the Serie del Caribe Hall of Fame, an honor he received in February 2021 in Mazatlán, Sinaloa.

 

This distinguished executive promoted baseball in extraordinary fashion and was one of the principal driving forces behind the Liga ARCO Mexicana del Pacífico for 37 uninterrupted seasons.

 

His outstanding player signings resulted in nine championships during his tenure at the helm of the club, significantly strengthening the organization’s image. In addition, he organized the Caribbean Series editions of 1987, 1992, 1997, and 2013. Most notably, the team captured the championship at the 2014 Caribbean Series held in Margarita, Venezuela.

 

Engineer Mazón has been widely recognized within the baseball world  a field that brought him countless friendships, major honors, and professional success through his impactful leadership from the front office. To that, one must add his kindness, his personable nature, and his remarkable charisma, qualities that earned him a prominent place both on and off the field.
